When you’re running marathons and ultra marathons it can often mean waking up at the crack of dawn for early morning race starts. When that’s the case it’s not always easy to find the time– or the the inclination – to prep a ‘proper’ breakfast. If you’re like me you’ll also want to avoid a belly full of half digested porridge sitting in your stomach when you get to the start line an hour later. So what’s the alternative breakfast for runners? In this video I chat with expert performance nutritionist Matt Gardner from the Big Feed Up HQ about the benefits of sinking a liquid breakfast and throw together a quick recipe for a killer pre-race smoothie.
I’ll be eating, or should I say drinking, something similar to this when I line up for the Dixons Carphone Race to the Stones this weekend. It’ll be modified a little as I can’t carry one of those Nutribullet PXs with me sadly but in principle it’s possible to make something similar that’s portable too.
