2018 was a busy, and fairly successful year. The Year of the PBs wasn’t a success across all the distances I was shooting for (from the mile up to the marathon) but I managed to bag new mile and 10k fastest times. And I threw in a few unexpected extras with the Half Marathon des Sables and running the 190 miles along the Thames source to sea in three days. So all in all, I was pretty happy with the way things went. But now it’s time to look at the 2019 race calendar.
I’ve not given up on going fast over a marathon but this year I’ve got two simple targets.
- Using the new Polar Vantage V running watch that puts power tracking on your wrist and the team at RunningwithUs, to push for a marathon PB in Seville in February.
- After that, it’s all eyes on the Lavaredo Ultra Trail, for my third attempt to earn that finisher’s gilet. I’ve got races in between but these are all about preparation for that one target. This year there can be no sidetrack races or challenges. It’s 100% Lavaredo.
Later in the year I’ll be heading back for my third New Forest Marathon because it’s local and it’s a fantastic race.
